What health issue facing British Columbians are you most passionate about? Why?
So this question is asking about the health issue facing facing British Columbians that I feel most passionately about and I think this is really important question to consider as there are a lot of health issues being faced in each province in Canada. And for myself, I would choose the opioid crisis. So to explore this. I'm just going to go into a little bit but why I feel passionate about this topic, but I and what I think should be done is
Next step and as well a little bit of my own personal connection to this issue. So I definitely think the opioid crisis is the the health issue facing British Columbians that I feel most passionate about and I think a big part of the reason that I feel so passionate about this as I do believe that there are steps that can be taken that would really help with this issue and I've done some research and read some books and then seen so many great ideas suggested. From Healthcare professionals people in the legal field and the research has been done or the mummies protocols have been taken in other countries. Their success has been great in helping with this crisis and helping with these overdose deaths. And so I really feel passionate that if we were to adopt some of these it can make a huge difference and living in Victoria. I do feel like there is quite a bit of exposure to people in that are suffering from - and suffering from opiate addiction and I do believe that more steps need to be taken to rectify the situation and some of these steps include providing safe injection sites as well as safe Supply testing centers. There has been a few put in place within Canada and their success has been Paramount in helping to prevent overdose deaths and as well as icing The Strain put on First Responders having these safe injection sites for people to use their products and providing safe needles and clean water and all of these other supplies that are needed. It's helping to prevent overdose deaths as well. As any other transmission of different diseases like hepatitis through use of dirty needles and all of these steps can be achieved by providing a safe supplies safe injection site as well as a safe. Supply a large part of the deaths in Canada and British Columbia with relation to the opioid crisis are due to fentanyl car fentanyl within these products and people are unaware and then are overdosing unknowingly from these Trace Amounts within the drugs. They are consuming and I do believe by offering a safe Supply or testing sites or a combination of both can be really proactive and helping these people. All to work together with the community and going to these centers every day to inject or get their supply. They're going to be building relationships with the people working there and I think a big part of helping them to overcome these challenges in building a community and feeling welcome and feeling like there are people out there who want to help and will support them through this journey and I think that having these services available, what do a big part in that? And there are a lot of people who can with safe Supply in small amounts of these drugs. They have a relatively normal life and they don't have to be marginalized and live on the streets and every day risking their lives to get these drugs and working alone to overcome these addictions and what other other mental issues that they're trying to overcome on their own.
Myself I have now currently living with a roommate who has overcome addiction herself through rehab and support with her family and just talking with her. I really got a sense of the importance of having community and supportive people around you and professionals as well as family members and friends and I understand that not everyone is able to have these resources around them and through this experience. I've really learned to value in providing these support systems. And overall I think that these changes can be made to help prevent many deaths and just alleviate the pressure from this crisis on Society on resources that are provided in Canada. And I feel very passionate about taking these steps to help make the situation better for everyone and do what we can as a community to support all individuals.
