Hi, my name is Amna Smiley and my pronouns are she her thank you so much for taking the time to meet with me today. So the scenario presented before me is something that I'm actually very grateful to have received because it's a topic that I have thought about for a long time ever. Since this act was legally passed and in 2018. I remember there was a lot of up or what students in my class heard that marijuana or cannabis had been legalized and it was definitely a controversial topic.
Sparked a lot of discussion in terms of the concerns with how this was handled. I can understand that at a federal level. There must be a lot of obligations that leaders have in order to make sure that things are rolling out laws are being passed. The country is running the way it is supposed to be run. However, it is challenging when something controversial such as leave. The legalization of cannabis is introduced into society and is something that is
a bit of an abnormal situation because Society is not used to this cannabis was formerly just a drug that people would illegally purchase on the streets or through other third parties and they would be smoking it or doing whatever with it. Illegally. And now that this has been legalized there are positive and negative ramifications of that. However, what the question is focusing on is if it was handled well to expect the
Provincial and Municipal governments to roll out this and mitigate the downstream effects and oversee the whole process with it. And I believe that in terms of rolling out and allowing cannabis to be legalized. That is alright if the federal government is able to provide the provincial and Municipal governments with some support in to how to proceed I do feel that.
Such a controversial topic has a lot of discussion and debate surrounding it which makes it difficult for municipal governments or provincial governments to know how to best handle certain scenarios because again, it is New Territory. There has never been legalization of a drug like in this manner for a really significantly long time if ever and as such it's something that has received a lot of controversy because different provinces might be responding
Differently are might have different age restrictions or rules as to permitting cannabis use versus some Municipal governments might have even more challenges because they are at a lower level in terms of a hierarchy and about exerting control. It might be more difficult for them to find where it is best to exert control such a / where they need to loosen up a little bit as such I believe that it would have been
Good on the end of the federal government to allocate more money time and resources towards helping the provincial and Municipal governments rather than just legalizing cannabis and hoping that these governments were able to take care of the situation and of the downstream effects that may occur. It would have been more worthwhile. If the federal government had some general regulations or general ideas, that could have helped to support these provincial.
principal governments during this situation
